Arkansas Dreamin' (A poem I wrote)

Arkansas Dreamin' (A poem I wrote)

Thank you Arkansas so natural and rad!

that special heart place I've always had

rollin' away still makes me sad

cuz i love how Arkansas is natural and rad...

so many years we sailed down the creek

of watery camp songs sung for the weak
kisses on hilltops that make you feel glad
that we are in Arkansas, natural and rad.

the northern mockingbirds and white river shad

even the bark on the trees of the hills iron-clad

are totally Arkansas natural and rad.

now don't go lose hope or rock just a little
whether you grab for your rifle, or grab for your fiddle
all y'all should print up a newspaper ad
saying: "Thank you Arkansas, you're natural and rad!"

The kids that I've known almost all of my days

will stick there inside me in so many ways
we hang out in dreams both happy and sad
even Arkansas dreaming is natural and rad

you gave us some good ones from Clinton to Cash
but the thing i love most about your whole stash

is even the ones you popped out that turned bad

are totally Arkansas, natural and rad.

Looking at the date you wrote this, you were likely leaving Arkansas after playing Fayetteville Roots Festival. I so appreciate all the times you have come to NW Arkansas to play. NWA is becoming more and more all the time nationally recognized for it’s growing art and culture offerings. And you have been playing here since you were 15, and I attended some of those shows. I was 16 myself. I have passionately enjoyed your music and performances for 19 years now. Thank you so much for the music and the memories of the past, and for those that have not yet been made!

I went to Magazine Mt. as a kid and my brother and sister and I watched a little lizard skitter across the rocks and fly off the mountain. I always wondered where he landed and if he lived to tell about it. Skydiver lizard.

Great poem man! I always loved the Razorbacks and goin’ down to Fayetteville from Tulsa to watch them play way way back in the day. Love ya man and can’t wait see and hear you Texas boys set the night on fire in the Constellation Room. God bless you!
