CAREER BIOGRAPHY

Ben Kweller is a Texas-raised singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and independent record label founder whose career spans more than three decades. From his beginnings outside of Dallas to his current work in the Hill Country, Kweller has brought a distinctive combination of melodic songwriting, emotional honesty, and musical independence to audiences around the world.

Growing up in Greenville (North Texas), Kweller began writing songs at age eight. As a teenager, he gained international attention with the post-grunge band Radish, signing with Mercury Records at fifteen. The experience launched a life in music that would take him from Texas clubs to concert stages across the globe.

After moving to New York City in 1999, Kweller built his solo career through homemade recordings and touring. His 2002 solo debut, Sha Sha, introduced a wider audience to songs including “Falling”, “Wasted & Ready,” and “Commerce, TX.” Equally at home at the piano and on guitar, he developed a body of work that moves freely among alternative rock, folk, power pop, and country while retaining his unmistakable voice.

His subsequent albums include On My Way, Ben Kweller—on which he played every instrument—and Changing Horses, a country album rooted in his Texas upbringing. Returning to Texas after nearly a decade in NYC, Kweller made Austin and later Dripping Springs the center of his creative life. His independent release Go Fly a Kite earned him a shared 2013 Grammy nomination for its recording package, recognizing his involvement in the visual presentation of his work alongside its music.

Kweller’s contribution to Texas music extends beyond his own recordings. As founder of The Noise Company, he has built an independent home for music and artist development. NoiseCo Studio in Dripping Springs provides recording facilities for his work and that of other artists, connecting his international experience with ongoing investments in the state’s creative community. He has also served on various Recording Academy committees, contributing his perspective as a songwriter, recording artist, producer, and independent label founder.

His relationship with Texas audiences includes an appearance on the Austin City Limits television series, multiple performances at the Austin City Limits Music Festival, and headlining performances at both KGSR’s Blues on the Green and the Bullock Texas State History Museum’s “Music Under the Star” concert series. Alongside those local connections, touring and collaborations with artists including Kings of Leon, John Mayer, My Morning Jacket, Ben Folds, The Strokes, Wilco, and Ed Sheeran have carried his music to listeners worldwide.

In 2025, Kweller released his seventh studio album, Cover the Mirrors. Recorded at his Texas studio following the death of his son Dorian, the album brings together grief, love, memory, and perseverance, with contributions from Waxahatchee, MJ Lenderman, Coconut Records, and The Flaming Lips.

Ben also supports the Texas music community through his involvement with the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) and the SIMS Foundation. In May 2023, Ben and his wife, Liz Kweller, founded Zev United, a Dripping Springs–based 501(c)(3) charitable organization honoring Dorian, who released music under the name ZEV. Created to carry forward Dorian’s encouragement of others and his creative spirit, Zev United supports musicians under the age of eighteen through financial assistance and mentorship. Its mission recognizes that young talent needs practical guidance as well as opportunity, helping participants develop the skills and knowledge to pursue their passions professionally.

Across recordings, performances, production, philanthropy, and independent entrepreneurship, Kweller continues to build a creative life in Texas while contributing to the state’s musical presence around the world.
